Wrestling season tends to be one of the more strenuous seasons, and this year was no different. With Sterling wrestlers being out of the regional competition, the season has ended a bit early.
Senior Derek Boeken’s season ended after three tournaments due to heart complications.
“I was pissed that I had to sit out most of the season,” Boeken said. “It was my senior year and it sucked not getting to do the sport I love anymore.”
Sophomore Dylan Stewart was ruled out after tearing the cartilage off of his ribs. Following a 3rd place finish at league, a doctor’s visit was all it took for Stewart’s season to end.
“I skipped wrestling the next day because I knew something was wrong,” he said. “It wasn’t really a surprise, but it was still tough.”
Stewart was looking forward to keeping his streak going after getting some quality wins.
“It was really hard to take in at first because I placed at a couple of good tournaments, and I felt like I wasn’t done yet, and if the real season was just getting started,” Stewart said.
With both of our wrestler’s seasons ending unexpectedly at their own pace, it could lead to doubts going forward, but that does not seem to be the case when talking about next year’s season.
“This injury won’t hold me back next year,” Stewart said. “It will be my junior year and I will definitely go along as if I was never injured.”
